Cygnet Folk Festival AGM.

Each year Huon Folk Inc runs Tasmania’s iconic Cygnet Folk Festival. This festival continues to grow in size and scope. It is now widely recognised as one of Australia’s best medium sized festivals. While expanding the number of acts, venues and styles of music and dance represented the Festival has managed to stay true to its origins and retain its unique and friendly character.

A major event in the musical calendar of Tasmania’s festival season, the Cygnet Folk Festival is much loved by audiences and musicians alike. Close to two hundred volunteers and score of hosts billet artists and their generosity of spirit attests to the place the festival has in people’s hearts and minds.

What is often forgotten, however, is that the sustainability of the festival depends on the willingness of a small group of people who nominate to be part of the Festival committee each year.
This year the Huon Folk Inc and the Cygnet Folk Festival are holding their Annual General Meeting at 3.00pm Sunday, April 18th, in the Supper Room at the Cygnet Town Hall. The Cygnet Folk Festival is a cultural, social and financial success however, if it is to continue, the committee needs new members.

The Festival is looking for dedicated people willing to attend around 10 meetings a year and to help share some of the work load with current members. The tasks are not onerous. Working towards maintaining and developing this great festival can be immensely rewarding. Remember, however, that the long term viability of the festival rests on our ability to form a committee each April. We would be particularly delighted if some young people can step forward. We are also looking for people of any age with experience working in community based organisations.

Show your support for one of Australia’s best festivals by joining Huon Folk Inc and attending the AGM 3.00pm Sunday, April 18th, in the Supper Room at the Cygnet Town Hall. Join the Committee and bring your ideas and energy along and help make 2011’s Cygnet even better!

Become a member of Huon Folk Inc

Even if you aren't able to become a member of the committee, we are always looking for new (and renewing) members of Huon Folk Inc, the organisation that is responsible for the Festival.

Annual membership is $5 and the AGM is in March. The membership elects the committee that meets 10 times annually to share out the tasks associated with organising the folk festival.

Membership forms are available at the Festival Office over the festival weekend or by emailing us.

If you would like to get involved with running the festival, the organising committee is always ready to welcome new members. There are plenty of tasks to go around and there is more often than not, a role that will suit you in terms of your capabilities and available time. You can email us to introduce yourself and to find out when the next committee meeting is scheduled.
