Here are programmed free events at the Cygnet Festival this year.

Unticketed concerts are a regular feature of the festival program. Tickets for the concerts usually sell out, so the organisers provide some fantastic free events that are open to everyone.

Friday night in the Drill Hall
A free concert for the younger members of the community is held in the Drill Hall each year.
The amazing Woohoo Revue from Melbourne headline this concert and should not be missed.

On the Porch
What could be nicer than lounging on the famous St James’ Grassy Bank, enjoying some festival food and watching some of the best acoustic performers and Community Groups performing on the porch of the local priest?
Soak up the music while you take a breather before the  afternoon and evening concerts?

Loongana Park
All weekend the Loongana Park stage offers a chance to see some of the brilliant performers in town for the Festival in the leafy, relaxed environment at the rear of the colourful markets. A great opportunity to grab some food from the festival traders and then kick back in the shade and watch the show. The Young Persons Blackboard Competition is a feature of the Loongana Park stage.
SAT 9.30am - 6.00pm
SUN 11.00am - 5.30pm

Roving Performers
The Lady Twitterers, The Hobart Ukulele Group, The Hot Bandits, Junkology and many others will just materialise at any moment anywhere and blow you away with their zany outdoor antics.

Shanties & Sea Songs
The Port Cygnet Sailing Club, about 15 minutes walk out of town on the Lymington Rd, is host to the delightful, informal concert ‘Shanties and Sea Songs’ featuring Chris vonderBorch and Cate Foley-Burke and what better place than at the sailing club sited on the location of the legendary Wilson Brothers' ship yards where they built some of the finest Tasmanian trading vessels and yachts. Cate and Chris will be joined this year by Justin Murphy, Kate Delaney, Denis Tracey, Steve Turner, Dale Fullard and Ned Trewartha.. Come along and sing a chorus or two.
The Sailing Club has a bar license and there will be a sausage sizzle to feed the hungry mariners.
SAT 4.00pm – 6.00pm Port Cygnet Sailing Club

Blackboard Concerts
There is much more talent around in Cygnet for the festival weekend than we could ever schedule into our program, so look out for the blackboard concerts at the Schoolhouse Coffee Shop.
Performers: place your name on the board.
All weekend

Festival market
Once again, thanks to Chris Littlejohn and the Cygnet Community Arts Council, the Festival Market will bring colour, action, arts and crafts, information and all sorts of treats to Loongana Park.  Music and entertainment complements the market with free outdoor performances from our stage in Loongana Park.

Cygnet Butchery Bluegrass Pick
This festival feature began as an impromptu event six years ago out in front of the Cygnet Butcher’s and it has taken on a life of its own.
Saturday 2pm

Sessions!
From the opening session from 3.00pm on Friday at the Bottom Pub to the seemingly interminable tune-trading in the Middle Pub, there’s no excuse for not immersing yourself in music. There are likely to be some robust fiddle sessions at the Top Pub.
We have three separate singing sessions and the Cygnet Butcher’s Bluegrass Pick is well established on Saturday.
Look around - you are sure to find another one.
Friday 3:00 - 6:00pm Welcome session  Bottom Pub
Sunday 1:00 - 3:00 Top Pub Singing

The Bush Verandah
The Verandah Coots are an authentic Apple Shed Music ensemble. They play the lovely old Tasmanian tunes that our grandparents and great-grandparents knew. They set up their own Verandah (next to the Cygnet Butcher) and welcome all to join in with a song or tune from around this land.

Young Person’s Blackboard Competition
Development of young performers is a critical function of our festival. The future of folk is in our young folk. There are limited places for this competition, so register early at the festival office.
The Hon Lara Giddings, Deputy Premier and State Member for Franklin, and Roger Joseph will again provide $75 vouchers on a local music shop as prizes. Winners perform at the Sunday Concert in the Town Hall at which time they receive their prize.
Sat 3.00 pm Loongana Park
